The O-Two CAREvent^® ALS handheld automatic transport resuscitator provides trained individuals with a safe and effective means of delivering artificial ventilation during respiratory and/or cardiac arrest.

These pneumatically powered, time/volume-cycled resuscitators feature a manually actuated automatic ventilation override button (manual button). A single slider control simultaneously adjusts ventilation frequency and tidal volume and provides six preset automatic and manual override settings for patients weighing 20 kg or more, including large adults. An OFF position allows the resuscitator to remain connected to the gas supply with the supply turned on, ready for immediate use. No electrical power or batteries are required to operate the device.

During mask-ventilated CPR, the first breath is delivered automatically, followed by a manually actuated breath. Activating the manual button inhibits automatic cycling for 20 seconds, allowing the rescuer to provide the 30 chest compressions recommended by current resuscitation guidelines. If the manual button is not depressed again, automatic cycling will restart at the selected rate and tidal volume.

Each resuscitator is equipped with a gurney clip that allows it to be securely attached to the handrail of a hospital gurney or ambulance stretcher.

The patient is protected from barotrauma caused by overinflation through an audible pressure relief system. This system warns the operator of airway obstruction or restriction, while excess delivered volume is safely discharged to the atmosphere.

The O-Two CAREvent^® ALS handheld automatic transport resuscitator also features synchronized intermittent mandatory ventilation (SIMV). This allows spontaneously breathing patients to breathe on demand through the resuscitator while receiving 100% oxygen at their own desired rate and tidal volume. The patient’s inspiratory effort temporarily suspends automatic cycling. Should the patient stop breathing, or should their tidal volume fall below the preset threshold, the resuscitator will automatically restart at the selected rate and tidal volume.

Accessories available for the O-Two CAREvent^® ALS handheld automatic transport resuscitator include standard and deluxe transport ventilator circuits with positive end-expiratory pressure (PEEP) ports.
